Details:The DfEE is running a pilot programme to develop masterclasses for gifted and talented children linked to specialist schools. There are currently ten projects, each providing masterclasses in subjects related to the school’s specialism for pupils from the surrounding area. The subjects include maths, technology, ICT, languages, sports and performing arts. The structure of each masterclass programme is different, though most involve a sequence of weekend and/or evening sessions. The projects recruit from their own and neighbouring schools and will already have recruited participants for this year. Each project has its own selection criteria: several rely mainly on teachers’ nominations; others are making some use of tests. There is no charge to parents.

The ten project schools are:

  • Brooke School CTC, Corby, Northamptonshire
